Miscellanea |
For over 40 years, simulations of the United Nations have increased awareness and knowledge of UN institutions and processes, and brought together students from all continents. The Model UN course is designed to acquaint students with the operations of, and issues affecting, the United Nations. Students research country positions, and learn to represent these in formal and informal negotiations while following standard UN conference protocol. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to articulate and evaluate different countries’ foreign policy, know the structures and procedures of the United Nations, analyse issues currently before the UN from a Member State perspective, and understand and competently use the rules of procedure, diplomatic protocol, and negotiating techniques common to UN delegates. The seminar will be held entirely in English and culminates in GöMUN, a multi-day simulation of several UN committees. Please note that participation in the preparatory seminar sessions \(5 & 19-20 of May 2023) and at GöMUN \(1 - 4 June 2023) is mandatory for completion of the course. Participants will benefit from a reduced rate for GöMUN! Please consult https://munsg.de/ for more information. In case of any questions, please feel free to contact me \(kristina.kurze@sowi.uni-goettingen.de) and/or the GöMUN Society \(goemun@googlemail.com). |
