Flow measurement techniques in microfluidics |
Lecturer: |
Dr. Corinna Maaß, Dr. Stefan Karpitschka |
Course typ: |
Blockveranstaltung |
Description: |
In this two-day course, the students will be introduced to flow imaging techniques widely used in microfluidics. They will acquire hands-on experience on microscopy, and particle image velocimetry for flow field measurements in 2D and 3D. The course starts with an introduction to the theory of the techniques, followed by hands-on experiments in the lab. The open-source software to perform the image analysis (PIV-lab in MATLAB and ImageJ) will also be introduced. The students will apply these skills to different problems e.g. simple channel flow, synthetic and biological micro-swimmers, and evaporating droplets. The participants do not need any specific previous knowledge to attend the course. |
