| Description: |
| „Personalized Medicine“ is an interdisciplinary lecture by the departments of Medical Informatics, Medical Statistics, Medical Bioinformatics, Genetic Epidemiology, Clinical Chemistry, Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Oncology, Psychiatry, Medical Ethics and History of Medicine, the UMG staff unit scientific law, UMG Central Biobank, and the study program Molecular Medicine. The Lecture is given in English. In some cases, lecturers may need to draw on content in German in teaching their specific aspects of Personalized Medicine. The lecture presents the fundamentals of personalized medicine, its aims, challenges, application and developments and introduces ethical aspects and data privacy issues. Lecture topics are definitions, goals, challenges, impact of various factors, score-building, fundamentals of genetics and diagnostics, fundamentals of pharmacogenetics and –genomics, examples from clinical research, data models and management, data management in clinical workflows, decision-making, biometric, and ethical implications of personalized medicine. The lecture is a cross-faculty key competency module and an elective module for students of medicine (clinical education; "Wahlfach Medizin"). |

| Students of computer- and data science are recommended to attend the bachelor-module "Fundamentals of Biomedicine" or an equally qualifiying module before attending the lecture "Personalized Medicine". |
