Comment/Description

The course will provide an overview on the most advanced EPR spectroscopy methods and how they are used in biochemistry and biophysics. Dynamic Nuclear Polarization technique, a new class of methods aiming to increase NMR signals via microwave irradiation, will be also explained.

* Basic principles of magnetic resonance (EPR and NMR) spectroscopy.
* g-tensor and hyperfine coupling anisotropies.
* Continuous wave (CW) EPR, mobility of organic radicals, paramagnetic centres in proteins.
* Advanced spectroscopy techniques: Electron-Nuclear DOuble Resonance (ENDOR) and Double Electron-Electron Resonance (DEER). Applications in biological systems.
* DNP: basic principles, dissolution DNP, Overhauser DNP. State-of-the-art of the methods and applications

The course includes lab work on CW EPR, state-of-the-art 263 GHz spectrometer, and DNP in liquids..
